This dress is made entirely from organic cotton, which produces considerably less greenhouse gasses than conventional cotton. The garment has been block-printed by hand, a traditional Indian process, that is also low energy.
By using only natural materials and dyes, this beautiful dress has the potential to be composted at end-of-life. Anegada have also ensured that the dress arrives in plastic free packaging that is fully recyclable, biodegradable and is made from 75% recycled materials.
This dress has been beautifully block-printed by skilled artisans in India; this process has been achieved using azo-free dyes, drastically reducing the levels of pollution within water waste. By using GOTS certified organic cotton, this garment uses significantly less water than conventionally grown cotton. In fact, organic cotton can reduce water use by 91%.
Anegada works with two ethical sewing workshops, one of which is Project Thrive, an empowerment program for at risk women based around the slums in New Delhi. Training women in sewing, cutting, quality control and packing, the project aims to provide stable jobs, fair wages and additional benefits like flexible hours and funds for healthcare and further education. Wage checks are in place and the factories are SEDEX audited.
