The natural material of rattan can only be harvested by hand. The preparation from tree to strand is done by hand and is a natural process a machine simply cannot replicate - resulting in low emissions. The leather used is tanned using natural materials, like bark, leaves and vegetable - using less emissions than traditional chrome dyed leather.

This handbag took years of development to ensure its high quality and durability. By using only natural materials, this bag is able to be recycled should it no longer be useable. Wicker Wings also use all offcuts of leather created by this handbag on their (re)done collection, meaning they use 100% of the hide available. The artisans ensure that the rattan strands are fully used during the weaving process with only a small centimetre cut off to tidy up the ends.

    Water Consumption

This handbag has been made using vegetable tanned leather. While
this method of tanning does use water, it does not pollute the environment the way the chromium-based leather tanning does.

    Workers Rights

Wicker Wings support the declining art of wicker weaving in Indonesia and enable women to create a second income for their families through their production. Wicker Wings work with an independent auditor in Indonesia who audits the working conditions of their weavers and ensures they are paid above the minimum wage.
